Introduction to Metrology Training
This week, the Belize Bureau of Standards has been hosting a five-day training for its metrology staff who will be tasked with the operation of the metrology laboratories and fulfilling the Bureau’s mandate of meeting the calibration needs of the country. This training is being delivered by the region’s leading fine mass Metrologist, Ms. Anett Matbadal, who has been instrumental in the development of this science in the Caribbean Region. This five-day training will provide new staff with the fundamental theoretical concepts of metrology that will be vital in their everyday calibration activities. In addition to providing an assessment of the Fine Mass Laboratory, its conditions, and its equipment, the training will engage the staff in the simulation of mass calibrations with subsequent estimation of uncertainty.
This training is expected to set the platform for the development of an unbroken chain of measurement traceability that will connect all verified and calibrated measuring standards and measuring instruments in Belize to a set of National Reference Standards (housed at the metrology laboratory of the BBS). This, in turn, will connect Belize to the rest of the metrological world through the International System of Measurements.
