On November 6, 2018 the Belize Bureau of Standards (BBS) attended the IX Meeting of the Mixed Commission on Technical and Scientific Cooperation between Mexico and Belize. At this meeting, the Government of Belize (GOB) through various Ministries and Government Departments discussed projects relevant to Agriculture, Geography, and Economy.
Two of the 10 successful project proposals includes Standardization and Metrology; namely, Development of an effective and dynamic implementation program for standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment (CA) in key commodities across Micro Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) and Developing and Strengthening Institutional capacities for a functional National Quality Infrastructure (NQI). The Bureau had previously benefited under the VIII Mixed Commission from a project on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) relating to the supply and demand dynamics, pricing methodology and technical capacity.
These projects represent the first of its kind engagement relating to the pillars of Quality Infrastructure (QI) [Standardization, Metrology, Accreditation, and Conformity Assessment]. Launching of the project implementation is slated for January 2019.
