The Belize Bureau of Standards ardently continues on the path of becoming internationally recognized for its calibration measurement capabilities as it hosted the quality manager of one of Central America’s most developed National Metrology Institute. Mr. Christopher Cortes Zuniga, quality manager of LACOMET (Laboratorio Costarricense de Metrología), delivered a five-day course to nine staff members of the BBS on the recently revised international standard for calibration and testing laboratories – ISO/IEC 17025:2017. The course was held from 3rd September to 7th September 2018 with the objectives of understanding the new requirements; identifying actions necessary for compliance; and optimizing the measurement performance of the BBS by eliminating or minimizing risks.
The comprehension and compliance of this standard is key to demonstrating The Bureau’s competence and is critical as the BBS plans, in the near future, to take part in proficiency testing, inter-laboratory comparisons, and peer reviews all in an effort to become internationally recognized for its calibration and measurement capabilities.
