The Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Commerce, BELTRAIDE, the Economic Development Council, the Customs and Excise Department and other stakeholder partners, officially launch a programme to benefit micro, small and medium enterprises, the MSME Enhancement Program or MEP. The program aims to reduce the cost of doing business and creating greater operational efficiency, thereby, strengthening the competitiveness of the MSME Sector. The benefits will include the enhanced customs and trade facilitating measures on select packaging and labelling materials.
The shortlist of packaging and labelling materials includes items such as, but not limited to, adhesives, plates, sheets, film, foil, tape, strip, boxes, cases, crates, spools, bobbins, stoppers, pallets, bags, jars, tanks, casks, drums, cans, staples, ribbons, bottles, lids, caps, labels, and packing or wrapping machine.
The launch held today, Wednesday, May 29th featured an overview of the program, along with an open dialogue with MSMEs and other stakeholders. Following the launch, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Commerce along with its partners, will facilitate a series of countrywide road shows to sensitize MSMEs on the application process and benefits and at the same time expand the formal base.
