The Inter-American Metrology System (SIM) is the Regional Metrology Organization (RMO) of the western hemisphere and is comprised of all National Metrology Institutes from North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. At the SIM General Assembly 2020, which was held on 19th November, the Belize Bureau of Standards was unanimously elected by its Central American peers to serve for two years as coordinator of the Central America Metrology Cooperation (CAMET). As coordinator, the BBS will be leading the regional effort for the continued development of metrology among member states (Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama) and its harmonization with SIM and all other RMOs across the globe.
On 11th February 2020, the BBS held its first meeting of CAMET where directors from all seven member states convened to discuss, among other topics, the first steps towards the development of a strategic plan to collectively achieve national and regional goals as it relates to metrology.
