SUMMARY:National MSME Roadshow 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Annual National MSME Roadshow\, organized by BELTRAIDE in collaboration with key regulatory partners\, concluded its nationwide tour. Running across 10 locations from June 25 to August 29\, the initiative proved to be a major success for participating institutions\, including the Belize Bureau of Standards (BBS). \nBy bringing regulatory expertise directly to local entrepreneurs through the Roadshow’s Formalization Clinics sessions\, the BBS aims to bridge the gap between national quality standards and local micro\, small\, and medium entrepreneurs (MSME)\, aiming to raise public awareness regarding the key responsibilities and services offered by the Belize Bureau of Standards (BBS). \nKey Pillars of BBS Impact at the 2026 Roadshow \n\nExplaining Standards & Compliance: Entrepreneurs frequently struggle to navigate mandatory quality controls. BBS officers provided one-on-one guidance breaking down national standards\, weight and measurement calibrations\, and compliance steps necessary to shift from casual operations and aim towards a commercial scale approach.\nPackaging and Labelling Initiatives: A central focus point of the sessions was educating business owners on proper product packaging and labelling requirements. Through these national MSME enhancement programs\, meeting BBS labelling standards is critical for local artisans and food producers aiming to get onto supermarket shelves nationwide. Entrepreneurs were encouraged to take advantage of BBS’ Product Label Evaluation services.\nPre-Export Readiness: As part of the “Buy Belizean” movement\, the BBS advises export-ready MSMEs on international standards compliance. Meeting regional standards (CARICOM) early ensures Belizean products can access regional trade corridors without costly repackaging or product redesigns.\n\nImpact Across the Numbers \n\n\n\nIndicator\nMilestone Achieved\n\n\nRoadshow Coverage\n5 Municipalities Covered (San Ignacio/Santa Elena\, Benque Viejo Town\, Corozal Town\, Dangriga Town\, & City of Belmopan)\n\n\nDuration\n5 Days of Interaction\n\n\nFocus Areas\nLabelling Compliance\, Metrology (Industrial & Legal)\, Standards Adoption\n\n\nTarget Sector\nArtisanal Goods\, Beauty & Wellness\, Agro-processing\n\n\n\nDriving the “Buy Belizean” Movement \nThe success of the Belize Bureau of Standards at the 2026 MSME Roadshow goes beyond regulatory enforcement\, we aim to be an economic catalyst. When small businesses adopt national quality benchmarks early\, consumer confidence increases. By lowering the barriers to technical standards\, the BBS strives to ensure that “Made in Belize” is not just a source of local pride\, but a stamp of quality that stands up to regional and global competition. \n \n

SUMMARY:BELIZE BUREAU OF STANDARDS (BBS) AWARDED ISO/IEC 17025:2017 ACCREDITATION OF ITS FINE MASS LABORATORY
DESCRIPTION:The Belize Bureau of Standards (BBS) hosted a ceremony to unveil the accreditation of its Fine Mass Laboratory to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 international standard for testing and calibration laboratories. This accreditation represents the culmination of years of dedication\, investment\, and collaboration and underscores the BBS’s commitment to advancing the field of metrology in Belize by providing internationally recognized\, traceable calibration services. \nAccreditation is the formal recognition by an independent body that a laboratory is competent to carry out specific tasks. It assures that calibration results are produced according to rigorous international requirements\, thereby ensuring accuracy\, reliability\, and global acceptance. With this achievement\, the BBS has secured its place on the global metrology stage by now being able to deliver internationally accepted measurement results in the calibration of Mass Standards and Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments (NAWI). The accredited scope of mass calibrations covers F1 mass standards and below (F2\, M1\, M3). Within the NAWI category\, the accreditation includes calibrations of balances\, analytical scales\, and precision balances used in testing laboratories and production environments across Accuracy Classes I\, II\, and III. \nBBS Fine Mass Laboratory Accreditation Certificate\nThe benefits of accreditation are far-reaching. For industry and commerce\, it reduces technical barriers to trade by ensuring that Belizean calibration results are recognized internationally\, thus opening doors for exports and regional competitiveness. For regulators and consumers\, it strengthens trust in measurements used for health\, safety\, and environmental protection. For sectors such as agro-processing\, industrial manufacturing\, petroleum\, aviation\, healthcare\, infrastructure\, and academia\, it ensures that critical measurements meet the highest standards of accuracy and reliability\, supporting efficiency and compliance. \nThe Belizean public is assured that the BBS remains steadfast in its mission to strengthen Belize’s national quality infrastructure (NQI) and enhance confidence in Belizean products and services through strategic milestones such as this accreditation. \nSamantha Banner (Mrs.) \nDirector
